Purification and characterization of an acidic polysaccharide from Fritillaria hupehensis.
A water-soluble acidic polysaccharide (APS) from Fritillaria hupehensis (Liliaceae) was isolated and characterized. APS showed a molecular weight of 4.6×10(6) Da and contained arabinose, galactose and glucose in a molar ratio of 0.54:0.44:0.20. APS was mainly composed of a linear backbone of (1→4)-linked D-galactose units with a terminal D-galactose-4-sophorosyl residue. Three side chains, each containing one D-galactose-4-sophorosyl residue and one D-galactose-4-glucosyl residue, were attached to the backbone at position 6. The side chains were connected via (1→6)-linkages and (1→3, 6)-linkages. Our results indicated that APS from F. hupehensis was a new acidic polysaccharide.SCREEN SAGA
